Conjunctions

Conjunctions is a word that joins two or more words, phrases, or clauses.

    1.     Coordinating Conjuctions

There are only seven of these!
for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Then we can say it with acronym FANBOYS.
It is used in two words, two phrases, and two independent clauses.
Examples :
·Chocolate taste delicious.
·Almonds taste delicious.
·Chocolate and almonds taste delicious.


  2.  Subordinating Conjunctions

It glues dependent adverb clauses to independent clauses.
Subordinating Conjunctions (adverb clauses) :
unless you are allergic
whenever I see your cat
since you are coming
 Independent Clauses :
□ I will bring my cat.
□ I sneeze.
□ I won't bring my cat.


Subordinating conjunctions join subordinate adverb clauses with independent clauses.
- I will bring my cat unless you are allergic.
- Whenever I see your cat, I sneeze.
- Since you are coming, I won't bring my cat.

There are another part of this conjunction :
a.   Conjuctions consession : though, although, even though, while.
b.   Conjunctions condition : if, unless, untll.
c.   Conjunctions comparison : than, as much as, rather than.
d.   Conjuctions time : after, as long as, when, since, till/untill, while.
e.   Conjuctions reason : because, since, so that.
f.     Relative adjective : that, what, whatever, which, whichever.
g.   Relative pronoun : who, whoever, whom, whose.
h.   Conjunctions manner : how, as though, as if.
i.     Conjunctions place : where, whenever.



  3.  Correlative Conjunctions

It used in pairs ( either...or, both...and), but they have the same function as coordinating conjunctions. That means that they join things that are the same.
-  Both David and I are allergic to cats.
- Either Mom or Dad will pick you up.
- He is both intelligent and good-natured.     

Conjuctive Adverbs
They are often used as a linking device between ideas. They show logical relarionships expressed in clauses, sentences, or paragraphs.
·        Similar to And : also, besides, furthermore, moreover.
·        Similar to But : however, still, instead, rather, otherwise, neverthless.
·        Similar to So : accordingly, consequently, therefore, meanwhile, then.
